Lands, Housing and Urban Development Minister Judith Nabakooba has been successfully nominated to contest as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Mityana District Woman Member of Parliament seat, marking her determined return to elective politics ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Clad in a gleaming silver and gold gomesi, Nabakooba appeared visibly confident and composed as she held up her nomination forms, flashing a broad smile for the cameras.
The minister’s calm but assured demeanour reflected both her political experience and her resolve to reclaim the seat she lost in 2021 to Joyce Bagala.
Minister Nabakooba, who previously served as Mityana Woman MP in the 10th Parliament, lost her seat in the 2021 general elections to Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa, who contested under the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
Ms Bagala lost the favours of the NUP and is now running as an independent candidate, turning the district woman MP race into one of the hottest on cards with NUP backing Prossy Nabbosa Mutesi.
Speaking shortly after her nomination at the Mityana Electoral Commission offices, Nabakooba said that being out of Parliament for the past five years had been a valuable learning experience that prepared her to serve the people of Mityana with renewed focus.
“Being outside Parliament gave me a chance to reflect, learn, and understand better how to serve my people,” Nabakooba said.
“This time, I am returning with renewed energy and practical experience to deliver tangible results for Mityana.”
The minister pledged to use her national position to accelerate development in the district, particularly through land reforms, urban planning, and housing initiatives aimed at empowering local communities.
“If the people of Mityana entrust me with their mandate again, I will focus on advancing development projects through my ministry to ensure that our district benefits from government programs,” she added.
Nabakooba also urged voters to look beyond political rhetoric and assess candidates based on their capability and integrity.
“I call upon voters to choose leaders who can deliver, not those who merely make promises. When you elect capable leaders, your communities will see real service,” she said.
The Mityana District Woman MP race has attracted four contenders: incumbent Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa (Independent), Mukisa Prossy alias Nabbosa (NUP), Catherine Nalweyiso Tusuubira, the current Mityana District Speaker (Independent), and Judith Nabakooba (NRM).
With nominations now concluded, residents of Mityana are bracing for a closely fought race that could redefine the district’s political landscape, as Nabakooba seeks to recapture the seat she once held with renewed vigour and poise.
